On a cold sunny day in March 2019, Michael, Robert and I set off from Kiruna to travel by train and car to Vakkotavare Mountain Hut, which is a beautifully situated hut far from civilisation. From there the plan was to set out in the arctic landscape on snowshoes to cover a bit over 100km over 7 days. We planned to trek North, then East and finally South to circumnavigate Kebnekaise – Sweden’s highest mountain. The journey would take us past the mountain huts Teusajaure, Kait
Lofoten & the Northern Lights - A Photography Expedition with Andy Mumford The plan was easy. In late February the stunning Lofoten archipelago of islands scattered between icy fjords and ocean beaches, punctuated by snow covered mountains and fishing villages is often blanketed with fresh snow and breath-taking views are everywhere you look. The low arctic sun gives fantastic light for almost the whole day, as well as unusually long sunrises and sunsets, Lofoten really is a
The Idea was simple. In one week we wanted to pack in as much as possible of the Swiss and French Alps. We knew that this would mean quite a lot of transportation, but also that we would be constantly surrounded by beautiful and wild alpine landscapes. In the end our decision was to include Chamonix, Zermatt, Grindelwald, Interlaken and Lac Neuchatel. The result was a trip that was fast paced, breathtakingly beautiful and lots of fun.
Scotland has always been a dream of mine. So when I found nine free days and a flight to Scotland, I just had to do it. I had friends in Kinlochleven so that was my first stop. There I repacked my bag and headed out the door with tent and camera. I spent some nights in bothy and some in tent. All I can say is that Scotland - I will come back.
I had some training to attend at Plas Y Brenin (a National Mountain Centre) so what better to do than to hike solo for a little over a week in Snowdonia? I had visited Wales a few times before so I knew what was in store for me, but still, my mind was blown. Wales is definitely one of my top 10 favourite photography locations.
The Tour du Mont Blanc or TMB is one of the most popular long-distance walks in Europe. It circles the Mont Blanc massif, covering a distance of roughly 170 kilometres with 10 kilometres of ascent/descent and passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy and France...or at least that is what Wikipedia says. The real TMB is indeed a very popular 170 kilometres trek that circumnavigates the Mont Blanc massif, but from a photographer's perspective is so much more. I decided to trek
Hidden Valley 2017 was a special expedition for me. It marked a huge change in my life as it was the formal start of Vagabond Expeditions. The idea had been there for a long time, and several expeditions had been delivered together with friends and friends of friends. But Hidden Valley 2017 was the first expedition under the brand name.
SMLXL Vero and I are just back from a fast paced and fun recognisance trip with Thomas Heaton, a really talented photographer from the UK and something of a YouTube phenomenon. We hiked a part of Tour Val de Bagnes over three days and had a great time – just as hiking trips are supposed to be – easy steps, spontaneous chatting and many laughs. Tom came down from the UK to “test hike” the Tour Val de Bagnes from a photography perspective, as we are planning a group tour toge
Lacs de Fenêtre is a favourite spot for for wild camping and photography. We had a group of three (plus a dog) joining us for an early season hike up to the lakes for a first night of bivvying and night time photography and then we headed up towards Mont Ferret for a second day hiking and bivvying before hading back down to La Fouly. Perfect mini-hike with lots of laughs and great pictures!
